  • Performance of PEBA

Peba is a block copolymer composed of rigid polyamide blocks and soft polyether blocks. The different proportions of the two components affect the performance of Peba, so it has a wide range of applications. In the case of sports equipment, it can be foamed into running shoes. The midsole can be used as an embedded plate for running shoes, football shoes, ski boots, rackets, various balls, etc.; taking advantage of its good breathability, it can also be made into a waterproof film for use in clothing.

  • PEBA shoe sole manufacturer
PEBA is a thermoplastic elastomer composed of three block copolymers: polyester-polyether-polyamide.

Among them, polyester and polyamide serve as hard segments, providing the material's hardness, rigidity and wear resistance; polyether serves as the soft segment, providing the material's softness, elasticity and low-temperature resistance. The properties of PEBA change with the change of the proportion and molecular weight of the three blocks. Generally speaking, the higher the polyether content, the softer and better the elasticity of PEBA, but the worse the hardness and wear resistance; the higher the polyester content , the harder PEBA, the better the rigidity, but the worse the softness and elasticity; the higher the polyamide content, the more wear-resistant PEBA, the better the oil resistance, but the worse the low temperature resistance.

Features of PEBA Material

PEBA is an excellent midsole material for running shoes with the following characteristics:

Lightweight

The density of PEBA is generally between 1.0-1.2g/cm3, which is lighter than common midsole materials such as EVA and TPU.

High Elasticity

The rebound rate of PEBA is generally between 50%-70%, which is higher than common midsole materials such as EVA and TPU.

Durability

PEBA's compression permanent deformation rate is generally between 10% and 20%, which is lower than common midsole materials such as EVA and TPU.

Cold-resistant

The glass transition temperature of PEBA is generally between -40℃ and -60℃, which is lower than common midsole materials such as EVA and TPU.

Breathable

PEBA is a microporous material with good breathability and moisture wicking capabilities.

Disadvantages of PEBA

1. They are prone to wrinkles, and even brand new shoes can develop some wrinkles and feel like they have been tried on too many times, which can be uncomfortable.

2. The cost and scrap rate are relatively high, resulting in higher manufacturing costs.
