Q1: I want to customize a shoe sole. What do I need to provide?

A1: Usually for custom soles, customers need to provide an original sole or a 3D drawing made by the customer.

Q2: I have a 3D drawing. Can I directly customize the sole mold?
A2: Generally, with a 3D drawing, we will refer to the internal depth and shape of the sole in the drawing to customize the mold. However, to ensure the last shape meets the customer's needs, it is more accurate to also provide a lasted upper last.

Q3: I have my own design but no 3D drawing. If I provide an original sole, can modifications be made based on my design?
A3: Yes, no problem. We will refer to the internal depth and last shape of the original sole provided by the customer and create a 2D drawing according to the customer's design for confirmation. Once confirmed, we will proceed with the remaining mold development.

Q4: How long does it take to develop a shoe sole?

A4: Usually, before producing a full size range, we first make a sample mold to confirm the details. For the sample mold, we create a wooden mold to verify development details, which takes about 3 days. After the customer confirms the full set of wooden molds, casting the sample mold takes 15–20 days. Once the sample mold is successfully produced, we provide sole samples to the customer. After receiving feedback or confirmation, we proceed with developing the full size range molds. This entire process takes approximately 30 days.

The last shape is the soul of the entire sole. It affects the wearing comfort and overall style of the finished shoe. The last shape specifically refers to the structure and design of the shoe last. Different lasts correspond to different foot types and needs. When making a sole mold, we refer to the customer's last to understand specific requirements such as length and width.

The seat depth can be understood as the height of the inner sidewall of the sole. It is equally important and simply refers to how deep the last is placed when making the shoe. This plays a crucial role in the aesthetics and comfort of the shoe.

Grading of shoe soles varies based on regional needs. For example, Asian foot sizes are generally smaller, while European sizes are larger. This leads to differences in sole length increments between sizes in different regions. When developing a full set of sole molds, we first determine the standard size based on the customer’s sample mold. For instance, if the customer’s standard size is 42 with a sole length of 295mm, grading will be applied based on the required increments for other sizes. Grading involves adjusting not only the length but also other parts of the sole. For sidewall height and thickness, these increase with size, but the increase is not linear—it depends on the sole design to ensure comfort.

FAQ: Shoe Sole Customization & Mold Development

Q1: I want to customize a shoe sole. What do I need to provide?
A1: Usually, for custom soles, customers need to provide an original sole or a 3D drawing.

Q2: I have a 3D drawing. Can I directly customize the sole mold?
A2: Generally, with a 3D drawing, we will refer to the internal depth and shape of the sole to customize the mold. However, to ensure the last shape meets your needs perfectly, it is more accurate to also provide a lasted upper last.

Q3: I have my own design but no 3D drawing. If I provide an original sole, can modifications be made?
A3: Yes, no problem. We will refer to the internal depth and last shape of the original sole you provide and create a 2D drawing based on your design for confirmation. Once confirmed, we will proceed with the mold development.

Q4: How long does the sole development process take?
A4: The entire process takes approximately 30 days. Here is the breakdown:

  • Sample Mold (Wooden Mold): ~3 days to verify details.

  • Casting the Sample Mold: 15–20 days after the wooden mold is confirmed.

  • Sample Provision & Confirmation: We send sole samples for your feedback.

  • Full Size Range Mold Development: Begins after sample confirmation.

Q5: Why is the "last shape" so important in sole development?
A5: The last shape is the soul of the sole. It directly affects the wearing comfort and overall style of the finished shoe. It refers to the structure and design of the shoe last, and we use it to understand specific requirements like length and width.

Q6: What is "seat depth," and why does it matter?
A6: Seat depth is the height of the inner sidewall of the sole. It determines how deeply the last sits inside the shoe. This factor is crucial for both the aesthetics (how the shoe looks) and comfort (how it fits).

Q7: How do you handle different sizing for different regions (e.g., Asia vs. Europe)?
A7: We use a process called grading. For example, Asian foot sizes are generally smaller than European sizes. We start with a standard size (e.g., size 42 with a 295mm length) and apply specific length increments to scale the sole up or down. Grading also adjusts other features like sidewall height and thickness, but the changes are not always linear—they depend on the design to ensure comfort.

Q8: Does Huadong Holdings Group have the capability to support this process?
A8: Yes. Huadong Holdings Group Co., Ltd. has our own mold equipment and expertise. We provide professional knowledge to support and guide our customers throughout the shoe development process.
